Hello people of the internet! It is me, Anna! I am back! I abandoned this site for a while, because I was not inspired to write on here, but 2020 is a new year, and writing is one of my favorite creative outlets, and what better way to summarize my feelings about this past weekend, than in writing!
This past weekend, Feb 28th-March 1st was a whirlwind. It started with February 27th, and the Critical Role live show in Chicago! I rushed home from work, threw my last minute items into a bag, and headed to the train station to take me to the city. I met my cousin there, who I would be staying with all weekend. We take the L back to her place, and drop my stuff off. I grab what I need for the live show, and we’re off to the L again. However, halfway there, we get stopped in a tunnel. The intercom speaker comes on and says something like “sorry we’re stopped, we should be moving momentarily!”. We are stuck for about 15/20 minutes. I rightfully was panicking about not making the live show on time. It turns out that there was an unauthorized person on the tracks (how fun!). We finally get moving again, and meet my cousins friend at Taco Bell. We eat, and while there, we meet some other Critters, who are also going to the show! They are from Minnesota, so they walk with us to the theater. We anticipated to get there at around 7:15pm to find our seats, and talk with other Critters. Jokes on us though, because the line was wrapped around multiple buildings. Turns out, the ticketing system went down. We waited outside for 1 1/2 hours, and my toes almost fell off (okay, well probably not, but i couldn’t feel them after awhile…). We finally get in and find our seats (which weren’t bad)! The show started a little after 9:30pm, an 1 1/2 later than it was supposed to start. The show was incredible, and was worth waiting out in the cold for! They finally stopped playing close to 2am. We had a long day the next day, and didn’t even get to bed until about 3:30am. Worth everything we went through for it

Friday was the first day of C2E2! This was my 8th year attending, but my first time going all 3 days (years past, I only did Saturdays). Fridays are an awesome day to get all your shopping done, which is exactly what we did. It’s busy, but nothing compared to Saturday, or even Sunday. We met the lovely Babs Tarr and Noelle Stevenson! We got some wonderful art from Babs again, and took a seflie, and we got Noelle’s new book, and a selfie as well! (I also got her to sign my copy of Nimona)! We walked around some more, spent more money, and finally left around 5pm. We ate dinner, and went to bed early, as we were beat from the liveshow, and knew we had a long day on Saturday!
Saturday-Critical Role day! We got there a bit later that day, and security took forever. It was insanely busy, but that’s to be expected. We walk around a bit, and then head over to the auto lines to start our autographs for the day! My cousins friend and I planned to wait with her while she got her signatures, and we would get selfies. However, the staff on Saturday were sticklers, and told us we had to have an auto ticket for a selfie, something that should’ve been made clear from the beginning. We get out of line, and her friend and I head over to buy an auto for Sam. Her friend goes off to get food, and I walk through Artist Alley and the con floor again, and of course, I spend money. I go back and take stealthy photos of her getting her signatures (sorry C2E2!). She’s done for the day, and we go and get food. After this, we head back to the auto area, because it’s my turn! I meet her friend, and we wait in line for Travis. I met Travis in 2018, and he was a total sweetheart! I made each of the cast little bead people of their characters in the Mighty Nein. Travis was sweet as ever, and a total gem! Next was Sam! This time, I was waiting by myself, and when it was my turn, i gave Sam his character, and got his auto and photo. He, of course, was wearing one of his ridiculous shirts, but he was also very nice! Finally, it was time for Laura! When it was my turn, i immediately complimented her nails, and told her she was my “hair inspiration”. She truly is America’s Sweetheart! After autos, we walked around until it was time for the group photo! I originally planned to do a group hug for mine, but the con made a rule of “no hugs” with all the illnesses around, which was completely understandable. So I decided to do “heart hands”. Let me tell you, that photo came out better than I ever imagined, and I starred at it the rest of the night. We left shortly after that, and then went to bed.
Sunday. Sunday was the last day of the con. It was also the day I got to meet Marisha Ray and Matthew Mercer. I was extremely excited, as Matt is one of my favorite people, and biggest inspirations. We got to the con about 2 hours before our signings, so we had time to walk around, and buy any last minutes items, which we totally did. After, we made our way to Marisha’s line where we waited until she was done with the photo ops. She came out and we all cheered! When it was my turn, I gave her her bead character, and we talked. She was very nice and adorable! After her, we went over to Matt’s line early, because originally had a train to catch back home to the burbs, but big shout out to my aunt for driving me back home! Matt’s line took a long time, but I was grateful. That man was taking the time to talk to everyone, and here everyone that came up to him, and didn’t rush them. We also met a fellow Critter in line who we talked to the whole time. I’ll be honest, I started tearing up as we got closer, because I was so excited. I missed meeting Matt in 2018, because it was chaos, but now I was actually going to meet one of my favorite people, and someone who inspires me greatly. It was our new Critter friend turn to go up. As he was leaving, he singled me out, and said “she’s very excited to meet you!” Matt looks at me, says “hi” and waves. I awkwardly waved back! My cousin goes up, gets her auto, and then finally its my turn. I give Matt his little bead person, and then also takes out the Yasha, Caleb and Caduecus I made, and wasn’t able to give to the others. I ask him if he wouldn’t mind giving them to the others. He went to go put them in a box. He signs my art print, and we are about to take the photo when I realize I never gave the handler my phone (I was very excited/nervous, okay!). I said’ “oh my god im sorry!” and Matt laughs. We finally take the photo, and as I gather my things, I turn and say “thank you so much! You’re one of my favorite people!”. He says “aww” and I leave. I regret not saying more, but I knew I would’ve burst into tears ( i am an emotional person), and I didn’t want to look bad in my photo. I look at the photo and its truly perfect. Matt was a total sweetheart, and remains one of my favorite people. Next time, I’ll get to say “thank you” and tell him how much he means to me.
Okay, enough with the sappiness. We leave and head back to my cousins place. We have McDonalds one last time, and wait for my aunt to pick me up. When I get home, I look over all my things, and know these memories will last forever. Post con depression is real, but it’ll pass. C2E2 truly has something for everyone! From wrestlers, to big names, to a small group of nerdy ass voice actors who play D&D, there’s something for everyone to enjoy, and it’s truly one of my favorite cons! I can’t wait to finally hang up all my beautiful art prints, autos, and photos! The Critical Role family made this my favorite weekend ever. Everyone was so nice, cast and fans included. So happy to be apart of this family!

See you next year, C2E2! (Hopefully next year it will be warmer)!
Don’t forget to love each other! ❤
